Renovation design for Palm Springs homes

Palm Springs homes are a different conversation than Colorado. Many were built in the 1950s and 1960s, the heart of the desert's mid-century era, and they come with architectural DNA worth protecting: clean lines, indoor-outdoor flow, and a relationship to light and landscape that newer homes rarely match. Our own Palm Springs project, a 1950s ranch in the Tahquitz River Estates, was exactly this kind of home.

The work here is about honoring that era while making the home livable for today. That means updating kitchens and baths with materials that feel right for a desert mid-century, opening the home to its outdoor spaces, and resisting the urge to erase original character in favor of whatever is current. Warm, grounded, and true to where it sits.

How we approach a home

Provenance

Every object carries a history, and that history is worth understanding before it's touched. Knowing where something came from is what separates real preservation from guesswork.

Preservation

Some homes have lived past their prime but still have a story to tell. A home's character was never in the studs and drywall. The work is knowing which parts of that story to keep, and building something new around them.

Permanence

Underneath every choice is a material or finish built to age alongside the people living with it. Homes made to outlast the moment they were designed in, not just fit inside it.

Palm Springs design questions, answered

We love them. Many Palm Springs homes date to the 1950s and 1960s, and our own desert project is a 1950s ranch in Tahquitz River Estates. We update these homes for how people live now while protecting the mid-century character that makes them special.

Yes. Halcyon Haus works from both Castle Rock, Colorado and Palm Springs, California, so we're on the ground in the desert, not designing it from afar.

Full-service covers the whole project: layout and space planning, cabinetry and custom millwork, tile and stone, lighting, plumbing fixtures, paint, sourcing, styling, and managing the install.

Both work. We can collaborate with a contractor you already trust, or bring in builders from our network, and we stay involved through construction so the design is carried out the way it was drawn.

Investment varies widely with the scope of the work, so pricing is tailored to each project rather than listed as a flat number. Share your space, timeline, and budget below and we'll talk it through.

Fill out the form below with a little about your space and goals, and Nikka will follow up personally.
